“Beneath the pressure of torments such as these the feeble remnant of the good within me succumbed. Evil thoughts became my sole intimates- the darkest and most evil of thoughts.”
This quote really brings the reader into the narrators mind; he
shows the reader how quickly he has changed- from loving animals and being a
kind man, to being a cruel man who wants to kill the black cat. This quote is
the moment that the reader sees that the narrator’s changed dramatically. The
original perception of the narrator is now turned around, as the story
continues from this moment, it shows how truly mad he is. Many questions that may
never be answered are, ‘why is the cat affecting him so greatly?’ or ‘what
caused him to change?’, these are questions I wonder myself.
